Description

Calacatta quartzite is a crosscut quartzite from Brazil. The vein cut version is called Macaubus White. These white quartzites resemble the Italian Calacatta marbles in appearance, but they are much more durable. They can be used for kitchen countertops without having the scratching and etching issues experienced with marble. During the polishing process, an epoxy resin is applied to the surface of the stone to fill in any natural pits, cracks, or fissures that may exist. This does not affect the durability, maintenance, or beauty of the stone. It is possible for some of the more minute pits that are too small to effectively hold the resin, to reopen during other finishing stages. However, this will not detract from the overall quality or appearance of the stone. This is a crosscut quartzite and due to the direction of the cutting of the block, some consecutive slabs may not book match. For projects needing book-matched slabs, it’s important to view the slabs at the branch prior to shipping to the fabricator.

As a natural stone product, it is recommended that this be sealed to extend its longevity. This quartzite has a more open structure and therefore needs a sealer that is designed to penetrate properly to ensure that the stone is sealed.
